In the natural environment of San Fernando, there are a series of trails designed to go through the marshes which will take you through areas of extraordinary scenic beauty: Tres Amigos-River Arillo Trail, Punta del Boquerón Trail, El Carrascón Trail... On these trails, bird watching is particularly significant, the changing color of its waters and the wise distribution of the estuaries that allows the heating of those, and the pre-evaporation that ends in the salt pits.
The Punta del Boquerón, declared Natural Monument of Andalusia, along with cultural heritage sites like the Urrutia Battery and Sancti Petri Castle, where archaeologists were recently able to find the exact location of the mythical Hércules temple, are more than enough attractions to tour these four miles due to the comfortable handrail or the perfectly made print in the sand.
This pleasant zigzag tour bordering the El Carrascón tributary allows us to enjoy the peaceful natural environment without losing sight of the profile of the city of San Fernando. Along the tour we can see the maze-like system of marshes, as well as some salt marshes created by man since time immemorial to obtain salt.
This trail allows us to get near to one of the areas of major ornithological interest in Cádiz Bay Natural Park.
The trail runs along the back wall from outside the old Ntra. Sra. De los Dolores salt mine, bordering the inner sac of the Bay of Cádiz.
It is a network of 15 long-distance cycling routes that connect the entire European continent. The EUROVELO 8 Network is the route that goes along our coastline and two are the sections that cross San Fernando:
A section with a high natural and cultural value that will consist of an itinerary of around 4 miles long, currently under construction and which will go through the heart of Cádiz Bay Natural Park, showing us the least known salt marsh environment far from the centres of both localities.
This section, around 14 miles in total, connects Cádiz with San Fernando through a trail parallel to the CA-33 which opens out into the vicinity of Bahía Sur Shopping Centre.
