During the War of Independence, this place played an important historical role as the seat of the Council of Regency of Spain, which convened the Cortes in September 1810. For this reason, the nuns were transferred to Cadiz, adapting these facilities for state offices, troop housing and hospital.

This educational center, established in 1760, continues to perform educational functions today.
